Terms of Service

1. Who you are contracting with

kontacts.dev is operated by LGTM Solutions LLC, a limited liability company registered in Wyoming, USA under filing ID 2023-001332875, at 30 N Gould St Ste R, Sheridan, WY 82801, USA. These terms are an agreement between you and LGTM Solutions LLC. You can reach us at privacy@kontacts.dev.

2. What kontacts.dev is

kontacts.dev gives you an email address, an inbox you can read in the browser, and the ability to send from that address. You can also connect a domain of your own and create addresses on it.

Turning that mail into GitHub issues is a separate thing you switch on, and it is off until you do. Once you link a GitHub repository to a project and turn issue routing on, mail to the addresses on your list opens a GitHub issue in that repository — or mail to any address at the domain, if you turn the optional catch-all on as well.

Mail to an address you have not listed, with the catch-all off, is kept in your inbox and marked quarantined; no issue is opened for it. Mail that fails sender authentication is held the same way.

That is the whole product. It is in beta, it changes, and features described on our marketing pages as planned are not commitments.

3. Your account

There are two ways in: signing in with GitHub, or asking us to email you a sign-in link. There is no password on kontacts.dev and nothing for us to reset.

Whichever you use, that account is the key — whoever controls the GitHub account, or the mailbox we send the link to, can get into your kontacts.dev account. Keep it secure; you are responsible for what is done through it here. If you lose access to the account you sign in with, you lose access to kontacts.dev — we have no password to reset and no other way to prove an account is yours.

kontacts.dev is not intended for anyone under 16, and you may not use it if you are.

4. What it costs

Signing up puts you on Free. Indie Hacker is $8 a month, billed to the organisation through Stripe, not per seat. Enterprise is custom — write to us. There is no trial that silently converts: a paid plan starts when an owner or admin of the organisation checks out, and not before.

Cancelling Indie Hacker returns the organisation to Free at the end of the period. Existing projects and mail are not deleted; the Free ceilings apply again.

5. Limits

Receiving is unmetered. Sending is capped at 10 messages per UTC day, per organisation, on the Free plan — one pool shared by every project in the organisation. A paid plan raises the ceiling; the current numbers are on our pricing page. When you hit the cap, sending stops until the counter resets; nothing is queued and nothing is charged.

This limit exists to make spam through Kontacts expensive, and we may change it — in either direction — as the service grows.

6. What you may not do

• Send unsolicited bulk mail, or anything that would be spam under the law that applies to you.
• Use kontacts.dev for anything unlawful, or to harass, threaten or impersonate.
• Send from an address or a domain you do not control.
• Work around the sending limit, whether by opening extra accounts or otherwise.
• Attack the service — probing, scraping, overloading it, or trying to reach data that is not yours.
• Resell kontacts.dev, or run it as a relay for other people's mail.

If you find a security problem, tell us at privacy@kontacts.dev rather than exploiting it. We will not pursue you for a good-faith report.

7. Your mail, and the part that surprises people

Your mail is yours. We do not claim ownership of it, we do not read it, and we do not use it to train anything — see our Privacy Policy.

But this is a product that publishes email into GitHub, so read this twice: Emails sent to this project's address will be published as public GitHub issues — including the sender's address and the full message body. Anyone can read them. Choosing a public repository is a feature and it works exactly as advertised, so the responsibility for what lands there is yours. Do not link a public repository to an address that receives private correspondence.

You are also responsible for having the right to send what you send, and for the mail other people send you ending up wherever you have pointed it.

8. Availability — read this before you rely on it

kontacts.dev is a free beta, provided as-is and as-available, with no uptime guarantee and no service level agreement. We may change it, break it, take features away, or take the whole thing down. We run no automatic deletion, but we also make no promise that your mail will still be here tomorrow.

Do not use kontacts.dev as the only copy of anything you cannot lose, and do not use it as the address of record for anything that matters — a bank, a domain registrar, an account recovery route. It is not built to be that yet and we would rather tell you now.

9. Ending it

You, at any time. Account deletion is in your dashboard Settings, behind a typed confirmation, and it takes effect in that request. It removes your sign-in, your stored mail sent and received, your sending address and your send counter. /privacy §7 explains exactly what goes and what survives.

Us. We may suspend or close an account that breaches section 6, or where we are required to. Except where the breach is causing active harm, we will tell you why and give you a chance to get your data out. If we shut kontacts.dev down entirely, we will give notice and a window to export.

10. Liability

kontacts.dev is free, in beta, and provided as-is, so to the fullest extent the law allows we exclude the implied warranties and we are not liable for lost profits, lost business, lost data, or any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of it. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you have paid us, which is currently nothing.

None of that removes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not let us exclude. If you are a consumer, your mandatory statutory rights are unaffected by anything on this page.

11. Privacy

What we store, where it is processed, who our providers are and how to have it all erased is set out in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms. We are not going to restate it here in weaker words.

12. Changes to these terms

When these change, we change the date at the top. If a change materially reduces your rights, we will flag it in the product rather than relying on you noticing the date. The current version is the one that applies; there is no archive.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and disputes belong to the state and federal courts located in Sheridan County, Wyoming.

If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in, or of your right to bring proceedings there.
